Cathan was a devout priest and warrior of the Horadrim Brotherhood. He participated in the fierce battle against the Lord of Hatred, Mephisto, which eventually led to the latter's imprisonment within a Soulstone. Cathan is also known for the invention of the Holy Bolt spell. Several of his items return in Diablo II as a special set. The set references Cathan's past exploits. Kanai's Cube has a recipe called "Work of Cathan" that lowers the character level requirements.
