An internationally popular light comic actor, Grant's films have included Bridget Jones' Diary, Notting Hill, The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain, Sense and Sensibility, and Four Weddings and a Funeral (written by Richard Curtis). Russell T Davies approached Grant to play the Ninth Doctor but he turned down the role, thinking the show would not take off. He expressed deep regret in 2007 after seeing how successful the show had become.
