The club was known as BSG Einheit Berliner Bär from 1951-1954, before changing their name to SC Einheit Berlin for the 1954-55 season. They enjoyed a modicum of success in the DDR-Oberliga, finishing second on two occasions and third three times. The club was replaced in the league by TSC Berlin after the 1962-63 season.
