Equipment for charging EV batteries is classified on their power requirements and speed of charging. Level 1 chargers use normal household AC electricity (15 amps at 110 volts or 7.5 amps at 220 volts) for slow battery charging to provide up to 5 miles of electric vehicle range per hour of charging. Level 2 Chargers uses higher AC power (up to 80 amps at 240 volts) for faster battery charging to provide up to 70 miles of electric vehicle range per hour of charging. DC Fast Charging uses very high power for even faster battery charging to 80% full within 20 to 30 min. .
