Equipment for charging EV batteries is classified on their power requirements and speed of charging. Level 1 chargers use normal household AC electricity (15 amps at 110 volts or 7.5 amps at 220 volts) for slow battery charging to provide up to 5 miles of electric vehicle range per hour of charging. Level 2 Chargers uses higher AC power (up to 80 amps at 240 volts) for faster battery charging to provide up to 70 miles of electric vehicle range per hour of charging.
