Located in the Goose Hollow neighborhood, it was founded in 1891, and the club has expanded greatly from its beginnings. It now fills two buildings totaling square feet ( m2), making it the largest indoor athletic club in the world.[citation needed] It is colloquially referred to as either "The Multnomah Club," or simply "The MAC." Non-members often erroneously refer to it as "The MAC Club." Its emblem is a winged "M". Its current membership stands at approximately 20,000 people.
