The Takara King of Fighters engine is an engine originally developed by Gaibrain for Takara's official Game Boy ports of SNK's King of Fighters '95 and '96 and Real Bout Special games. It was later used by Vast Fame for its series of GBC fighting games. The first known pirate game using this engine - and the only one in monochrome - is King of Fighters '97, a hack of the official KoF '96 combining the characters from '95 and '96. V.Fame's subsequent games actually appear to be based on this hack rather than one of Takara's original games.
