Mitchell J. Lewis (26 June 1880 – 24 August 1956) was the actor who played the Captain of the Wicked Witch of the West's Winkie guards in the 1939 MGM film The Wizard of Oz — the figure who cries "Hail to Dorothy!" once the Witch is dead. Lewis had a long career in Hollywood, appearing in more than 200 features between 1914 and 1956, though normally in small parts. He repeatedly played a doorman, a bartender, a "major domo," a police detective, a sailor, a pirate, and similar roles. He played doormen in three separate films in 1953 alone, including Kiss Me Kate.
