In its raw form, uridium could explode if exposed to an electrical charge. The Cardassian mining station Terok Nor was used to extract and process uridium from Bajor during the Cardassian Occupation. (DS9: "Civil Defense") Uridium is possibly named for a 1980s Commodore 64 video game of the same name. The game play was mostly based on real metallic elements, except a developer had mistakenly thought "uridium" was a real element – and that became the game's name. Uridium is also very close in naming to the real life element iridium, and is possibly named after how iridium is pronounced by some.
