Lahr, one of the main characters of Legends of the Dark Crystal is a shepherd who heards not sheep but bizarre looking creatures known as mounders and has a doglike companion named Whouf. He also plays the flute and in the first book finds himself to be the lone survivor of a Garthim raid. After meeting up with Neffi he helps encourage the Gelfling of the nearby Namopo Valley to stand up to the Garthim and fight, calling it "Doing what you can".
