Horatio Peel was a master clockmaker and the inventor of the clockwork firearm mechanism. He considered the flintlock mechanism unsatisfactory, and subsequently invented the system that allowed clockwork pistols and rifles to be made. It is also said that he created the best versions of these weapons. The pistols he built were once used in duels before the nobility realized that they were too powerful for that activity.
