Clarence Clixby Cartwright (1871-1949) was a civil servant and local politician active in the Hendon area. Born in Yorkshire, Cartwright moved to London and in 1894 passed an examination to enter the civil service. He was appointed an outdoor officer with HM Customs.. In 1897 he became a third-class clerk with the Supreme Court of Judicature. He was to remain at the court for the rest of his career, and was awarded the MBE in the 1933 Birthday Honours, holding the post of Principal Clerk at the Bankruptcy Department of the court. He retired to Hove on the Sussex coast, where he died aged 77.
