The Magic Land of Alakazam or Alakazam the Great! or The Rambler on a Pearl Farm (西遊記 Saiyūki) is a animated film directed by Taiji Yabushita, Osamu Tezuka (credited), and Daisaku Shirakawa. It based on Tezuka's re-telling in manga form of the Chinese classic, Journey to the West. Though Tezuka was credited as a director, he was not involved in the creation of the film. However, his involvement in the publicity campaign sparked his interest in animation, and led to his involvement in animated television series soon after. On July 14, 1961, retitled Alakazam the Great, this film was one of the earliest Japanese animated films to be released in the United States.
