Howard made his first writing sale, Diminisher of Peace, to Dru Pagliassotti at The Harrow. The story appeared in the September, 2005 issue, and he quickly followed that up with another story, Always Becoming in the January 2006 issue. His short story Hammers and Snails won the Heinlein Centennial Writing Contest for the amateur division. Howard also paints in watercolors and digital formats, with sales to several online and print fantasy magazines, as well as a program cover for an Okokrim meeting.
