The Kaston-class battleship analog was a heavy dreadnought designed by the Lefan Research Corporation prior to 8 ABY. It was a well-defended medium-sized ship with a formidable array of weaponry. It marked the top of the Lefan Imperium's Systematic Naval Project which intended to create ship classes with interchangeable parts so Lefan Imperial Arms could manufacture them with relative ease. Ships of this class received extensive upgrades after 12 ABY to keep up with newer designs.
