Clive Saunders PhD was a xenologist assigned to the USS Grissom (NCC-638) in 2285. Saunders had previously worked on the beginnings of the Genesis Project with Dr.Carol Marcus. Marcus and he had been lovers for a time, and he befriended her son David. Leaving the Genesis Project due to Starfleet involvement, Saunders eventually returned to help David Marcus as part of his science team aboard Grissom. During the Grissom mission, the womanising Saunders began a brief, but for him, serious affair,with married helmsman Rebecca Sato. Saunders had previous interaction with Dr. Michael Liebmann who had used his influence to have Saunders removed from a the Federation Vulcan Science Council liaison group. (Star Trek: Grissom).
