Beleague had been one of a group of Forkrul Assail who were chasing the Snake. They had originally numbered twelve but with Beleague's death were reduced to four, the remaining ones being Beleague's mother, Inquisitor Sever, Adjudicator Scorn, Sister Rail and Brother Adroit. Sever recalled that she had made Beleague's weapon, a staff, when Adjudicator Sever took it from the dead man and passed it to her.
