Battle of Frederick, September 17, 1862: Lee’s Army is able to catch McClellan’s units stationed East of Frederick off guard, and he marches on Antietam, pressing the attack and hoping to catch the Union off guard once again by out flanking them. On the Eighteenth, his Cavalry engage Federal Cavalry only a mile from Union Lines.
