Kelly is among the first trainers that Ryan encounters in A Just Edge. She is much more experienced than him, as can be seen by her team of Pokémon. As she wants to enter the tournament, Kelly is gathering gym badges when she first meets Ryan. Since she is traveling alone, she allows him to tag along so as to make her journey less boring. At the start of the story, she already has five of the eight badges needed for entering the tournament.
