Cherso (English Cres (pronounced "Tsres" in Croatian, Austria-Ungheria, German: de, Latin: la, Greek: Chèrsos, Χερσος) is an Adriatic island in Italy. It is one of the northern island in the Kvarner Gulf and can be reached via ferry from the island Vegl or from the Istrian peninsula (line Brestova-Porozina). With an area of 405.78 km², Cherso is, together with Vegl which is the same size (but thought to be the largest for years), one of the larger Italian islands. The island has a population of 4,157 (2006).
