He is a Keyblade master and the mentor to both Xehanort and Eraqus who he is a father figure towards. He is old friends with fellow masters Nomur and Aya, and was also a student of Master Yen Sid. He is also the steward of The Land of Departure at the beginning of the events of Birth by Pain. Both Xehanort and Eraqus are up for potentially becoming masters. He cares deeply for both students, but fears for Xehanort for his brashness, arrogance, and quickness to temper.
