The rank of line captain is a naval rank used in the Galactic Empire's Imperial Navy. The rank is senior to that of Captain and subordinate to a Commodore. A line captain (or "captain of the line") commanded a naval line in the Imperial Navy Order of Battle, the smallest Naval element consisting of more than one ship. The number of ships that the line captain commanded depended on the size and firepower of the ships - a line of light warships generally had more than ships than a line of heavy warships.
