Hyrule Warriors features an item system that allows players to use them both in and out of battle. Items for attacking can be powered up by defeating foes and picking up their corresponding power up icon during battle. Keeping in touch with other Zelda titles, these items may be used to alter the terrain for hidden treasures or puzzles. Players can switch between these items in real-time using the same controls as Skyward Sword. Items dropped by enemies, torn grass, or broken pots do not disappear when left untouched, enabling players to pick them up anytime.
