The multiregional hypothesis is a theory (held by a minority of paleontologists) of how anatomically modern humans, Homo sapiens sapiens, evolved with a worldwide distribution. The multiregional hypothesis holds that the evolution of humanity from the beginning of the Pleistocene 1.8 million years BP to the present day has been within a single, continuous human species, evolving worldwide from Homo erectus to modern Homo sapiens.
