The Tachyonic Shield (or Tachyon Shielding) was an advanced form of shield technology utilized by starfleet in the late 24th century primarily for the Universe-class starships. It worked by forming a stable field contained beta-tachyons contained by electrostatic fields, which thereby increased shield strength by 7.5 times. It took nearly 2x the damage needed to collapse a standard deflector shield to collapse a Tachyonic Shield. Tachyonic Shields were a uncommonly used, but capable arrangement on starships in the mid and onward 25th century.
