Kantare supply ships were equipped with these escape pods. After an accident aboard such a vessel in 2129, several crewmembers used the pods to escape, but they were not rescued. In 2151, Enterprise found such a pod still in orbit of a planet, brought it aboard and found the remains of its occupant. (ENT: "Oasis")
