The 17th Massassi Cohort was a unit of the Royal Army of the Golden Empire and the last of the "second era" Massassi Cohorts. Despite ranking last among the seventeen cohorts, the 17th saw regular action on behalf of the Golden Empire, including fighting in the Battle of Naporar during the Conquest of the Chiss Ascendancy. The unit continued to serve in the border regions, often traveling from one trouble spot to the next or reinforcing attack fleets; it fought under Salome Hrek's command during the Vagaari War.
