Steve Monks ran a campaign as a write-in candidate for Durham District Attorney. Monks was dubbed "Spoiler Steve" because of the perception that his campaign was only conducted to draw votes away from Lewis Cheek. On July 19, 2007 Monks announced his candidacy for Durham's City Council.
