Halloween Horror Nights IV was the first year to introduce a "scare-zone", a name given to specific outdoor areas that feature theming and costumed characters with the intent of scaring people who walk through the areas. To get to certain areas of the park, it is necessary to travel through these scarezones. Scare-zone have subsequently reappeared at every Halloween Horror Nights Orlando event since then, either as multiple fixed scarezones, a single park-wide scare-zone or as at Halloween Horror Nights 22 a number of roaming scarezones.
