Planting areas were designated zones on the dunes of Arrakis where the planting of trees, shrubs and herbs took place. It was part of Pardot Kynes's vision to transform Arrakis from a desert planet into a lush and fertile world. Work on the planted areas was carried out by the Fremen. These areas were also kept free of spy satellites by bribes to the Spacing Guild.
