Nurse Gray was on duty when Ernest Bishop was rushed into Weatherfield General after he had sustained gunshot wounds during a raid on the wages office at Baldwin's Casuals in January 1978. The Nurse ushered Emily Bishop and Betty Turpin to a waiting area and advised them that, as Ernie had just been taken into the operating theatre for emergency surgery, that they could have a long wait. Emily was still too shell-shocked by the news of Ernie's shooting to take in much of what the Nurse said. Ernie died from his injuries a short time later.
