Gauntlet: The Third Encounter was developed and released exclusively for the Atari Lynx in 1990. It featured several new character classes and utilized the vertical scrolling of the Lynx. It's considered a black sheep of the Gauntlet series. This is less of a surprise when considering that this Gauntlet game started out as a different title called Time Quests and Treasure Chests and was altered and given the Gauntlet name when Atari bought the rights to the Lynx console. The game is also criticized for its static layout; unlike other Gauntlet games, this version lacks Generators and the stage layout is the same from one playthrough to the next.
