A sound sponge was an electronic device that emitted sonic waves in frequencies well above and below the normal range of audible sound for most species in the galaxy. It was well suited when someone didn't want any noise to raise an alarm. Boba Fett used one to keep the subdued Bria Tharen on the Queen of the Empire from being heard when she cried out for help.
