First introduced in the strip from July 12, 1982, Snoopy dons a surgical cap and gown, and wanders hospital hallways as the World Famous Surgeon. In a number of comic strips from the 1980s, he is seen being asked medical questions by Linus van Pelt. The last appearance of this alter-ego, or a variation on it, is in the strip from August 27, 1999, in which he diagnoses Rerun van Pelt with a bruised knee. During this last appearance, he is identified as the World Famous Orthopedic Surgeon. The World Famous Surgeon makes a brief appearance in the 1990 TV special, Why, Charlie Brown, Why?
