Dr. Jonathan Kaplan worked under Warden Cole at the penitentiary where James Pike was incarcerated. When Pike faked his own death, Kaplan was the one who was meant to do an autopsy. He was startled when Pike suddenly awoke and managed to escape. Later, when analyzing Pike's blood, Kaplan and William Boone discovered cyber viral cells indicating that Pike had a CVI.
