Susan Blake was Chester Martin's younger sister. After the Great War she married Great War veteran Otis Blake. After the 1929 stock market crash, Otis managed to hold onto his job in a glass plant and he and Sue helped out Chester and then her father after the two lost their jobs in the steel mills. Chester returned the help when Otis eventually lost his job and help the two along with their son Pete move to Los Angeles, California where he had previously re-located looking for work. Otis found work there too and he and Sue paid back Chester.
