Internalized sexism is sexist stereotypes about or behaviour towards women from other women. Internalized sexism is quite common among geek women. Many geek women have an ambiguous relationship with stereotypically feminine traits and women-dominated areas of interest and some come to internalise the idea that doing certain women-associated things is a marker of low status or competence, or that women are largely harming themselves with their behaviour and justifying or creating discrimination from men.
