Blue Sky Freenet (run by Blue Sky Community Networks) was a free ISP serving Manitoba. It was one of several freenets that appeared in Canada starting in the early 1990s. The system appears two have consisted of two Sparc machines, winnie and pooh. They closed down in April 1998 after failing to pay their phone line bills [1]. Winnie was purchased by First Peoples Net, an organization which assisted Canadian aboriginal peoples to gain access to the Internet. The Blue Sky Freenet domain name, freenet.mb.ca, is now being used by Swan Valley Communications Network, a commercial ISP offering DSL and dialup access.
