Brandwood is an area in the south of Birmingham. Up until the Second World War, the area was predominantly rural with little development. However, following the war, the vast expanse of open space was utilised for temporary prefab residences to accommodate those who lost their homes to slum clearances in the inner city of Birmingham or had had their homes destroyed by the bombing raids. Infrastructure was then developed as permanent estates were built, with the two main estates being Baverstock and Druids Heath, which were built around Bells Lane in the 1960s. The two estates contain the area's only tower blocks, of which there are 15, although there were 16.
