Franz Winkelmeier (27 April 1860 – 24 August 1887) was, at 233 centimeters (7 feet 8 inches), one of the tallest humans during his time. He was known as the Giant of Friedburg-Lengau. His surname is sometimes spelled as Winkelmaier, Winkelmeyer or Winkelmayer. He was born as a son of a mercenary family in Lengau. Two years later, his parents bought the Schöscharngut between Friedburg and Lengau. In Friedburg, Franz Winkelmeier attended elementary school. Until the age of fourteen years, his growth was normal.
