He played junior hockey for the Saskatoon Quakers from 1962 to 1964. Turning pro in 1964, he played for the Fort Wayne Komets in 1964-65 and the Los Angeles Blades in 1965-66. He was the WHL Leading Rookie in 1965-66. Orban was called up to the Chicago Blackhawks in 1967 and played parts of two seasons there. In February, 1969, he was traded to the Minnesota North Stars where he stayed until the end of the 1969-70 season. He played in 114 NHL games, scoring 8 goals and 15 assists.
