Bobby Gene "Red" Sybolt was a resident of Grantville before moving out some time later. He was born in Berea, Kentucky, but had no local family or known relatives inside Grantville. He was a labor organizer and was notorious for his strong views on socialism, for which he was given the nickname "Red". When revisiting the town to get back in touch with his roots, and work with the locals, the Ring of Fire happened. Despite his situation, Sybolt had several opportunities to rise to prominence in the community. He was a master labor organizer, a decent auto mechanic, and an old friend of Mike Stearns.
