After Zhu Di had become emperor in 1402, he ordered his army to round up and execute thousands of suspected Assassins, including their leader Fang Xiaoru. He also sent the eunuch Zheng He on voyages around Asia and Africa. In 1424, while trying to suppress a rebellion near the Gobi Desert, the Yongle Emperor was killed by Li Tong, an Assassin whose parents had been killed under his command two years earlier.
