The Harris Street Property was originally owned by George Lowery through his real estate business. He sold it to Tom Cassidy, who paid $40,000 in cash for it. Mr. Cassidy's daughter was engaged to be married, and he purchased it for her as a wedding present. Cassidy was seen in the office joking that "money cannot but happiness, but it can be used to ward off unhappiness".
