A special blend of tea, the Earl Grey melange was named after Charles Grey, the Second Earl Grey, who apparently received a diplomatic gift of this blend. It receives its distinctive flavor and aroma from bergamot oil, derived from a fragrant citrus fruit native to Earth's Mediterranean region. Captain Jean-Luc Picard was known to have a fondness for this blend. He typically ordered it hot. (TNG: "Contagion" ) In 2368, Lursa and B'Etor invited Picard to their home and served him Earl Grey tea as part of efforts to sway his decision as Arbiter of Succession. (TNG: "Redemption" )
