The leather jacket-wearing Darts Player and a bespectacled friend were having a game in a deserted Rovers Return in February 1989. After losing a point due to the dart bouncing off the board, the player asked Bet Gilroy for better ones. Receiving a sharp reply from the distracted landlady, the player made a crack to Betty Turpin, resulting in Bet threatening to throw him out. As it was nearly drinking up time, Bet challenged the lads to beat her in one last game.
