When the Chaotix Crew and Sonic visited the swamp to rescue Blockhead Bill and Society Max, the heroes were forced to battle mud monsters sent by Root. A green one released spores from several parts of its body, aiming them at the invaders. Despite Sonic's efforts to blow them all away with a Sonic-Cyclone, both he and Chaotix fell asleep and were taken to Root.
