The Constitution of Bijan is the fundamental law of the Republic of Bijan, and establishes the state as a democratic republic wherein the supreme power is vested in its people. It was drafted during the summer of 1947 by a freely elected Constituent Assembly chosen in an election the previous year, and was adopted by the people of Bijan in a referendum held on November 2, 1947. The constitution has been in effect since January 1, 1949, though some of the organs of government it established did not begin functioning until as late as 1952.
