Gerald Unwin was the paternal uncle of Shelley Unwin and came to Weatherfield in July 2003 for the wedding of his niece to Peter Barlow. He introduced himself to the Barlow family when he visited them at No. 1 and calmed Peter’s nerves at St. Christopher's Church as his bride was late. This was understandable as Peter had earlier admitted to an affair. What he didn’t tell Shelley was that the affair with Lucy Richards had gone all the way to marriage and her service today would be a bigamous one. The character was also credited on Episode 5545 (18th July 2003) but didn't appear.
