Port Gardner is a city in the US state of Washington, located on a peninsula where the Snohomish River runs into Port Gardner Bay. The city is a noted manufacturing site in the region and has a long-lasting blue-collar identity. The city has a population of about 98,000 as of 2010, making it the 8th largest city in the state of Washington. In the 1920's, it became a naval city due to the Pacific War and grew in population, and expanded in influence as a shipbuilding site. By the 1960's, however, the city had halved its population and has grown moderately slowly ever since. The city is noteworthy for being a major population center in an otherwise relatively rural region north of Alki.
