He first joined the Star Trek franchise as Post Production Supervisor for Voyager's fourth season. By the following season and for the remainder of the series, he was the show's Associate Producer. He then received Co-Producer credit during the entire run of Enterprise. As an in-joke, the dedication plaque of Enterprise NX-01 includes the name S. Welke, a reference to the show's co-producer. The reference can also be seen on set artwork in the episodes "Demons" and "Terra Prime" .
